Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a well-child visit and a sports physical?
These are two different types of visits, and one cannot replace the other.
A well-child visit is a comprehensive annual checkup that covers your child's overall health — growth, development, immunizations, vision, hearing, and any concerns you have as a parent. It's covered by most insurance plans as a preventive visit.
A sports physical (also called a Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation, or PPE) is focused specifically on whether your child is physically ready to safely participate in sports or athletic activities. It reviews cardiovascular health, musculoskeletal fitness, and any conditions that could pose a risk during exercise.
We recommend scheduling both if your child needs them — ask our team when you call to book.
What should I bring to my child's first appointment?
Please bring a photo ID, your child's insurance card, a list of any current medications, and any previous medical records or immunization history you have available. Arriving 15 minutes early to complete paperwork is appreciated.
Where do I park, and how do I access the clinic?
Free parking is available in the back parking lot at 4007 Clarksville Highway, Nashville, TN 37218. Please use the building entrance located at the rear of the building, then take the elevator to the 2nd floor.
Do you accept same-day or walk-in sick visits?
We do our best to accommodate same-day appointments for sick children. Call us at (615) 341-4968 as early as possible and we'll find the soonest available time.
Do I need a referral to bring my child in?
No referral is needed to see Dr. Allen for primary pediatric care. However, if your child needs to see a specialist, Dr. Allen can coordinate that referral directly. Requirements may vary based on your insurance plan.
What immunizations do you offer?
We provide all routine childhood immunizations recommended by the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Your child's immunization schedule will be reviewed at each well-child visit. If you have questions about specific vaccines, just ask — we're happy to explain.
What insurance plans do you accept?
We accept most major insurance plans, including TennCare and Metro employee health plans. If you have questions about coverage, visit our Billing & Insurance page or call (615) 341-4968 before your visit.
How do I access my child's health records?
You can view visit summaries, lab results, and immunization records through the HealtheLife Patient Portal. Ask our front desk team at your first visit to get your account set up.
How do I schedule or cancel an appointment?
Call (615) 341-4968 to schedule, reschedule, or cancel an appointment. We ask for at least 24 hours' notice when possible for cancellations.
What if my child has a broken bone or serious injury?
Our clinic is not equipped for fracture care or orthopedic injuries. If your child has a suspected broken bone or a serious injury, please go to the Nashville General Hospital Emergency Department or call 911 if it is an emergency.
