Public Records
Public Records Policy Overview
In accordance with the Tennessee Public Records Act (TPRA), Nashville General Hospital (NGH) ensures public access to its records. All citizens of Tennessee have the right to inspect or request copies of public records during regular business hours unless otherwise restricted by law. NGH is committed to providing efficient access to records while safeguarding the integrity of its operations.

How to Request Records
Public record requests can be submitted in person, by mail, email, or phone. Proof of Tennessee citizenship is required, and requests may be submitted to the designated Public Records Request Coordinator. Requests for inspection can be made orally or in writing, while requests for copies must be in writing.
Response Time
NGH aims to provide prompt access to records. If additional time is needed, NGH will notify the requester within seven business days, detailing the reasons for any delays or denial, such as exemptions to disclosure or insufficient specificity in the request.
Fees
Fees for copies are $0.15 per black-and-white page and $0.50 per color page. Labor fees may apply if retrieval and preparation time exceeds one hour. Fees are intended to cover costs, not hinder access.
Confidential Records
Certain records, including patient medical records protected under HIPAA, are confidential and exempt from public inspection.
