FAQs
Do I need a referral to be seen?
Yes. Most patients need a referral from a primary care provider or another specialist before scheduling a rheumatology appointment. Once your referral is received, our team will review it and reach out to schedule your visit.
How are appointments scheduled?
After your referral is reviewed and approved, a member of our team will contact you to schedule your first visit. Patients with more urgent conditions may be prioritized. To check on a referral, call 615-341-4968.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Please bring a photo ID, your insurance card, a list of current medications, and any recent lab or imaging results from other providers. Arrive 15 minutes early to complete paperwork.
What happens during the first visit?
Your initial visit includes a full review of your medical history, a physical exam, and — when appropriate — lab work or imaging. Your provider will discuss what they find and begin building a treatment plan with you.
Will lab work or imaging be done the same day?
In most cases, lab work can be completed the same day. Imaging studies may be scheduled separately depending on what's needed and appointment availability.
How long does it take to get an appointment?
Wait times vary depending on referral volume and the urgency of your condition. Patients with time-sensitive concerns are prioritized. Our team will give you a clear timeline when we contact you to schedule.
How are medications managed?
Your provider will discuss treatment options, including medications that may require ongoing monitoring or prior authorization from your insurance. Many patients use our on-site pharmacies for convenient access and adherence support.
How do I cancel or reschedule an appointment?
Call 615-341-4968 as soon as possible if you need to cancel or change your appointment. We ask for at least 24 hours' notice whenever possible so we can offer the time to another patient.
What insurance plans do you accept?
We accept most major insurance plans, including Metro employee health plans. For questions about coverage, visit our Billing & Insurance page or call 615-341-4968.
How do I contact the clinic with questions?
Call the Rheumatology Clinic at 615-341-4968 during business hours. For urgent concerns outside of clinic hours, follow the after-hours instructions on the voicemail. If you believe you have a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
