NGH Hospital Authority Board Names New Officers
CEO Dr. Joseph Webb Receives 4 out of 5 Performance Review for 2024

NASHVILLE – February 14, 2025 – At a recent Nashville General Hospital Authority Board meeting held on January 30th, the Nashville General Hospital Authority Board elected new officers for the term ending in June 2025. Dr. Raymond Martin was appointed chair, succeeding Pastor Frank Stevenson, who stepped down this year. Christy Smith was named vice chair, and Dr. Arie Nettles was elected secretary. Dr. Martin previously served as vice chair, while Smith held the role of secretary.
Smith, CFP, CIMA, AIF, CRPC—senior vice president of investments and branch manager at Wells Fargo Advisors in Brentwood—also chaired the CEO Performance Review Committee, which evaluated Dr. Joseph Webb’s performance for 2024. The review assessed five key metrics, each rated on a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest. Dr. Webb received an overall score of 4 out of 5.
Under Dr. Webb’s leadership in the past fiscal year, NGH and its team achieved significant milestones, including:
- Earning Leapfrog Safety Grade ‘A’
- Securing the #1 ranking in Tennessee for Health Equity from the Lown Hospital Institute
- Being recognized as a top hospital for Black Americans by BlackDocs.org
- Receiving accreditation from the Commission on Cancer
- Attaining The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval®
Additionally, NGH redefined whole-person healthcare, achieving operational excellence by reducing ER wait times to 4–5 minutes (compared to the U.S. average of 35.7 minutes) through its No-Wait Emergency Room, cutting inpatient stays by 36%, and achieving a record fiscal year—all while opening two satellite medical practices and its first stand-alone imaging center.
