Bio
Dr. Matthew S.J. Katz, M.D., is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon who joined Nashville General Hospital in 2020. He earned his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and completed his internship at Lenox Hill Hospital. Dr. Katz completed his ophthalmology residency at Montefiore Medical Center - Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident and received the Ronald M. Burde Award for Excellence in Resident Research twice.
During residency, he led clinic staffing, coordinated physician schedules, organized grand rounds, directed teaching programs, and served as liaison to the Office of Graduate Medical Education. He also supervised departmental disciplinary hearings.
Dr. Katz completed a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the National Retina Institute under Dr. Bert M. Glaser, later joining him in practice while leading research programs and participating in clinical trials.
