Bio
Leslie Coker Appiah, MD, FACOG, is Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology for Meharry Medical Group and Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Meharry Medical College. She is affiliated with Nashville General Hospital and serves as Executive Director of the Center for Women’s Health Research. She also provides care through the Meharry Obstetrics & Gynecology Clinic and Meharry Health Network Clinic.
Dr. Appiah earned her medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and completed her residency at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. She completed a BIRCWH research fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine and specialized fellowship training in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology at Texas Children’s Hospital. She is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Recognized nationally for clinical excellence and leadership, she has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doc and Exceptional Women in Medicine (2023–2025) and has received honors including the AMA Women Physicians Inspiration Award and the American Medical Women’s Association Exceptional Mentor Award.
