Open seven days a week, 24 hours a day, the Emergency Department provides immediate treatment, lifesaving procedures and stabilization of medical, surgical, obstetrical, pediatric and geriatric emergencies. The highly-skilled staff includes physicians, physician assistants, nurses and nurse practitioners.  With separate entrances for ambulatory and ambulance patients, the personnel treat medical needs according to their level of severity.

Nashville General's Sexual Assault Forensic Exam team is on call 24 hours a day.  This specialized team of advanced practice nurse practitioners provide expert care and treatment to survivors of sexual assault.  Sexual assault survivors can present to the NGH Emergency Department within 96 hours of the assault.  We work with community agencies such as the Sexual Assault Center to ensure victims are provided emotional support and care in addition to clinical care needs. Crisis treatment is also provided in cases of sexual assault against children and adolescents through our affiliated clinic, the Our Kids Center.
